Christmas Lights are being strung, the holidays are coming fast, some of the best family memories we can make are during this season. Some great family fun is going to places that celebrate the season by lighting up the evening and doing so with delight. Texas has some great places to go to be engulfed by a delightful atmosphere of lights and festivities; here are five places to go into such a celebration.
Amarillo – Christmas Garden of Lights
Christmas Garden of Lights is put on by the Amarillo Botanical Garden, and has over 200,000 lights on display on 4 acres of the garden. The lights will be on display for 3 weeks, November 27 – December 19, with over 30 local artists to perform. $10 donation for adults and kids under 12 are free.
San Antonio – Fiesta de las Luminarias
Fiesta de las Luminarias is a century’s old tradition where candles are lit and placed inside paper bags along the river walk. Held for only 3 weekends in December (December 4-20). The river walk is lit by more than 3000 luminarias, and maintained by volunteers. Enjoy the free stroll, and watch for the Holiday Boat Caroling.
College Station – Santa’s Wonderland
Santa’s Wonderland has shopping, lights, wine, food, hayrides, live music, and more. This event goes for about 2 months (November 13 – January 3). Something for everyone in the family to do, even for the urban cowboy can ride the mechanical bull. Don’t break any laws or Marshall Frostbite will have to take you in. Cost will depend on how much you want to do while you are there.
San Angelo – Concho Christmas Celebration
Concho Christmas Celebration is celebrating a 21 year tradition that began as a short walk and has turned into a 2.5 mile drive along the Conch River, with more than 3 million lights. $5 donation is suggested per vehicle, and a great option for a cold night to remain in the warm car. This runs the month of December starting on the 4th and ends on the 31st.
Marshall – Wonderland of Lights
Wonderland of Lights is a total transformation of the town of Marshall. This lighting event is said to rival some of the best in the country, you can enjoy an outdoor ice skating rink, Carousel, Santa’s Workshop & Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, carriage and train rides, and live entertainment. Open Every Tuesday-Sunday from November 25th until December 31st (except for Christmas).
